With all the fad diets and latest trends these days one can get pretty confused when it comes to finding the right foods to eat. I always check out the latest trends but then tune in to my body and noticed how eating that way makes me feel. I don’t believe that there is a diet thats right for everyone as we are all different. What might be great for one person could be poison for another. When you gets caught up in the latest diet fad and eat that way because its the cool thing to do, your body might be giving you signs it needs something else that often goes unnoticed. I have found that when I eat intuitively and listen to my body it tells me the food I need eat. Lately I have had a craving for bright green, hard, fresh green olives. I literally will be home chilling and the craving will come and then I need to go to whole foods to get some. A few other cravings I have recently is oatmeal and potatoes. These are not something I eat regularly or crave often so when I get the craving I eat it. The other thing I always do is Google the healing properties and health benefits of the food I am hungry for.
Green olives- High in Vitamin E and antioxidants as well as a good source of iron and calcium. Olives are good for the heart and may protect against cancer and osteoporosis. They help fight infections caused by bacteria and also fight inflammation.
Oatmeal – High in fiber, minerals, and antioxidants. Oatmeal lowers cholesterol, stabilizes blood sugar levels, improves digestion by keeping the bowls moving, lowers blood pressure, increases the growth of good bacteria in the digestive track, calms the nervous system and lowers the risk of heart disease.
Potatoes: High in potassium, Calcium, Phoshorus, and Vitamin C. Potatoes are an anti- inflammatory. They reduces acidity and soothes digestion, regulates blood pressure, prevents cancer calms the nerves and helps you sleep well, increases circulation, improves brain health and strengthens the bones.
The weird thing was, yesterday I went to the doctor and they said my blood pressure was high. Now this was strange because I always have low blood pressure but if you see from the above The oatmeal and the potatoes help lower blood pressure. Also my digestion has been off and my bowls have felt inflamed. All of the above foods are healing for the digestive track.
When I work with my fertility and pregnant moms to be I have them play around with this way of intuitive eating. It will change your relationship with food. You actually begin to see how the food you eat affects your body and if pregnant your baby. Locking in this way of eating will help you down the road when making food choices to fed your children that help them grow healthy, vital and strong .
