Tis the season … Yup it’s that time of year again where coughing and sniffles fill the air. As much as you try and avoid the sick people in your life  or the germs that fill the air sometimes you just get plan old sick. I remember reading years ago that a cold is your body’s natural way to detox. It’s something that I always think about now when I get one. 

One of the best things to do to help the detox process is obviously stay hydrated. Water, water and even more water. Try adding some fresh lemon to really flush out the system. Also coconut water and hot tea with lemon and honey for sore throat and cough. But,  my all time fav is my HYDRATION COCKTAIL . 

I also love my some bone broth ( I can only do the chicken as the beef one smells like a barn and freaks me out) the healing bennifits are endless ! Here is what it does and a simple recipe to make. BONE BROTH  You can also buy at your local farmers market and now they sell in the frozen section at whole foods and imagine makes it In a box. 

The other thing is a must sip on is BIELER’S BROTH . I first discovered it 2 weeks ago when I was visiting a sick client of mine. Her husband made her a big batch of this and gave me some. Of course I left went to the market and made me a big old batch of it. It’s SUPER easy to make, healthy and delicious ! 

STEAM yourself – breathing in steam helps open your nasal passages and clear the chest. You can do either over a pot of hot steaming water and put a towel over your head to lock in the steam or get in a hot shower with the door closed. I like adding some EUCALYPTUS or OLBAS OIL to the steam for a little extra clearing action. 

BREATHE RIGHT nasal strips  – Not only do you snore more when pregnant but these little strips will help take away some pressure and open up the sinuses to help you sleep better. 

My Holistic homeopathic doctor DR. PAYAM HAKIMI  perscibes this remedy to all my pregnant clients OSCILLOCOCCIUM . He says to take 1 tube every 6 hours at first sign of cold or flu. I am also a HUGE fan of and do often VITAMIN DRIPS  to help boost my immune system especially  with me being up all night, not sleeping and in and out of the hospital ( germ central) for births.  

NETI POT WITH SALINE RINSE  – So this one I can’t bring myself to do, but people swear by it to help flush out the sinuses. 
REST REST  AND KEEP ON RESTING – The more you rest and allow your body to heal the quicker you will recover. 

Pour yourself a cup of some fresh ginger and mint tea – Ginger is a natural decongestant and mint helps control coughs. My favorite way to make and enjoy is to chop up some fresh ginger, add a few fresh mint leaves, pour hot water over and let sit for a bit. Add some honey (  natural cough suppressant and throat soother and some lemon to detoxify ). 

Gargle with 1/2 teaspoon of salt mixed with warm water to help with sore throat. 



Melt 1/2 cup of coconut oil And 1/4 cup of beeswax to a small glass jar. 

Add in 10 drops of Eucalyptus oil and 4 drops of peppermint oil. 

Rub on your chest. 

Keep sealed and store In a cool dry place. 

Take ECHINACEA to help boost immune system.

Avoid dairy as it produces extra mucus. 

Take vitamin C . I drink this no matter what first thing in the morning  EMERGEN – C . Also eating foods high in Vitiam C such as oranges ( organge juice) , berries, sweet potatoes, melons and broccoli. 

Take a Probiotics  and Sociable garlic  daily to help strengthen the immune system. 

And of course the  you have to eat ultimate sick comfort food – Chicken soup … Jewish penicillin. In my book THE MINDFUL MOM TO BE on page 165 is a delicious recipe handed down from  my friend Stefaini’s family from generation to generation .
